ali_matroudiLondon, MEFD – Middle East Forum for Development condemns the imprisonment of Ali Matroudi, a poet and writer from Ahwaz, the capital city of Iran’s Khuzestan Province. On 18th May, Matroudi was sentenced by the Iranian authorities to serve a one-year prison sentence in Shiban prison on charges of “acting against national security and propaganda against the establishment”. Narges Mohammadi1London, MEFD – Narges Mohammadi, an already-imprisoned renowned human rights activist and vice president of the Defenders of Human Rights Center in Iran, has been sentenced to serve ten years of a sixteen-year prison sentence following a new trial which was chaired by notorious Judge Abolghasem Salavati, head of the 15th division of Tehran Islamic Revolutionary Court. executionLondon, MEFD – 36 year-old Rashid Kouhi was hanged in prison in the morning of 9th April 2016, in Rasht, the capital city of Iran’s Gilan province, despite international outcry to halt his execution. Rashid Kouhi was arrested in August 2011 at a checkpoint in Roudbar, Gilan, after Iranian authorities stopped him and searched his bag where they reportedly found 800 grams of crystal meth. (more…)

F SalbehiLondon, MEFD – According to sources inside Iran, alleged juvenile offender Fatemeh Salbehi, who was arrested when she was 17 years old for the murder of her husband, was executed this morning at the age of 23 in Adel Abad prison in the city of Shiraz in southern Iran.

Fatemeh Salbehi married at the age of 16 to a man who was twice her age and who she had never met before their marriage. (more…)

Salar-ShadizadehLondon, MEFD – Middle East Forum for Development (MEFD) calls on the Iranian authorities to immediately halt the execution of Salar Shadizadeh, who is scheduled to be executed tomorrow for a crime allegedly committed when he was 15 years old.

Salar Shadizadeh, who is now 24 years of age, was detained by the authorities in February 2007 when his friend’s dead body was found in a garden of Shadizadeh’s family. The authorities then arrested Salar Shadizadeh and accused him of stabbing his friend in the neck which resulted in his death. (more…)

10469745_10203649368016947_3763586105795985896_nLondon, MEFD – Six Sunni prisoners from Iran’s Kurdish minority were executed in Rajai Shahr Prison in the city of Karaj this morning. Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports that Hamed Ahmadi, Kamal Molai, Jamshid Dehghani, Jahangir Dehghani, Sedgh Mohammadi and Seyed Hadi Hosseini were executed at 4am this morning.

One of the relatives of Hamed Ahmadi told HRANA, “An ambulance left the prison at 5am and all the families rushed towards it. We couldn’t see the bodies but we were told that all 6 prisoners have been hanged and that we can collect the bodies at Bibi Sakine cemetery”.

The six men, who were sentenced to death by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran for “enmity against god” (moharebeh) following grossly unfair trials, were not spared by the Iranian authorities despite calls from international (more…)
