London, MEFD – Middle East Forum for Development has organised a panel event titled ‘The persecution of religious and ethnic minorities in Iran’, which will be held on Monday 27th February, 5:30 pm, in the House of Commons. The event is co-sponsored by the All-Party Parliamentary Human Rights Group (PHRG) and the All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Religion or Belief and will be chaired by Dr Matthew Offord MP. Salar-ShadizadehLondon, MEFD – Middle East Forum for Development (MEFD) calls on the Iranian authorities to immediately halt the execution of Salar Shadizadeh, who is scheduled to be executed tomorrow for a crime allegedly committed when he was 15 years old.

Salar Shadizadeh, who is now 24 years of age, was detained by the authorities in February 2007 when his friend’s dead body was found in a garden of Shadizadeh’s family. The authorities then arrested Salar Shadizadeh and accused him of stabbing his friend in the neck which resulted in his death. (more…)

London, 8 May (MEFD)

Local media has reported that Jeddah’s criminal court has sentenced a Saudi Arabian activist and blogger, Raif Badawi, to 10 years imprisonment, 1,000 lashes and commanded him to pay a fine of 1 million riyals (£133,000) for “insulting Islam” and setting up a liberal web forum.

Raif Badawi, who is the co-founder of the “Saudi Arabian Liberals” website, was arrested in 2012 by the Saudi authorities on charges of breaching Saudi Arabia’s IT law and insulting the religious establishment through his blogs and his Saudi Arabian Liberals website. (more…)

London, 14 Mar. (Christian Today) – Members of the British Pakistani Christian Association (BPCA) were in the Netherlands this week to ask for greater efforts to protect persecuted Christians in Pakistan and make it easier for them to receive asylum in the country. (more…)
