London, MEFD – On Wednesday 1 November, Middle East Forum for Development (MEFD) held an event in the House of Commons regarding the human rights situation in Iran.

London, MEFD – Middle East Forum for Development (MEFD) was represented at a panel event in the House of Commons on Monday, which it co-organised with the All-Party Parliamentary Human Rights Group (PHRG) and the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Freedom of Religion. The event, chaired by Sir David Amess MP, was titled ‘The persecution of ethnic and religious minorities in Iran’ and was attended by a number of notable attendees from across a wide spectrum. ali_matroudiLondon, MEFD – Middle East Forum for Development condemns the imprisonment of Ali Matroudi, a poet and writer from Ahwaz, the capital city of Iran’s Khuzestan Province. On 18th May, Matroudi was sentenced by the Iranian authorities to serve a one-year prison sentence in Shiban prison on charges of “acting against national security and propaganda against the establishment”. ShaabaniLondon, 12 Feb. (MEFD)

Middle East Forum for Development condemns in the strongest terms the execution of Hashem Shaabani, an Iranian poet and teacher from Iran’s Ahwazi Arab minority. Shaabani was sentenced to death following a grossly unfair trial in July 2013 by Branch Two of the Ahwaz Revolutionary Court along with fourteen others on charges of “enmity against God” and for forming a “threat” to national security.
