At least 60 people reportedly dead after regime forces drop bombs on Idlib camp housing people displaced by fighting (ALJAZEERA).

ALJAZEERA – At least 60 people have been killed and dozens injured, activists say, after a Syrian government helicopter dropped two barrel bombs on a camp for people displaced by fighting in the country’s north, charring some bodies beyond recognition.

The bombs were dropped on a camp near al-Habeet in the northern province of Idlib on Wednesday, mostly killing women and children at the camp, an activist told Al Jazeera. (more…)

U.N. News – Senior officials from the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) warned today that an “immense” humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Iraq and called for greater resources from the international community to help with the upcoming winter season, as they concluded a four-day mission to conflict-riven areas in the country. ReyhanehWe have been informed that the Iranian authorities have executed Reyhaneh Jabbari in the city of Karaj this morning. Ms Jabbari’s mother, Shole Pakravan, confirmed her death to BBC Persian. According to The Independent newspaper, Ms Pakravan told BBC Persian that her 26-year-old daughter was hanged in a Tehran prison and that she was due to see her daughter’s body at the cemetery today. JabbariAmnesty International – The Iranian authorities must stop the execution of a woman due to be hanged tomorrow morning after being convicted for the killing of a man whom she said tried to sexually abuse her, said Amnesty International.

Reyhaneh Jabbari was sentenced to death in 2009 after a deeply flawed investigation and trial. Her execution was due to be carried out on 30 September but was postponed for 10 days. (more…)

With deep regret we have been informed of the suspicious death of Seyed Jamal Hosseini (Esfandiar Baharmas), editor and a senior member of Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRAI) through their news agency. Jamal Hosseini was found dead in his office by Turkish authorities on the night of 4th August.

We have been informed that Gholamreza Khosravi Savadjani has been executed by the Iranian authorities this morning in Rajai Shahr prison in the city of Karaj following an unfair trial on the charge of “enmity against God” (moharebeh) for being a supporter of the banned Iranian opposition group, People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI).

Gholamreza Khosravi was a political prisoner who spent 40 months in solitary confinement in various detention centres following his arrest in 2007 in the city of Kerman. During his detention he refused to “confess” to charges laid against him and was tortured and ill-treated as a result of this. Gholamreza Khosravi was among the prisoners of ward 350 of Tehran’s Evin prison who were brutally raided and beaten on 17th April by the regime’s forces. (more…)

Local media has reported that Jeddah’s criminal court has sentenced a Saudi Arabian activist and blogger, Raif Badawi, to 10 years imprisonment, 1,000 lashes and commanded him to pay a fine of 1 million riyals (£133,000) for “insulting Islam” and setting up a liberal web forum.

Raif Badawi, who is the co-founder of the “Saudi Arabian Liberals” website, was arrested in 2012 by the Saudi authorities on charges of breaching Saudi Arabia’s IT law and insulting the religious establishment through his blogs and his Saudi Arabian Liberals website. (more…)
