London, 9 March 2019, MEFD – Middle East Forum for Development (MEFD) is appalled by news that prominent arbitrarily detained Iranian human rights lawyer, Nasrin Sotoudeh, faces up to 34 years in prison and 148 lashes following two grossly unfair trials that transpired against her as a result of her peaceful human rights activities. London, MEFD – At a time when major protests rage in scores of cities in Iran against dire economic conditions, the government’s foreign military interventions and repressive policies at home, and the Islamic Republic’s persistent engagement in planning and executing acts of terrorism in EU member states, it is extremely regrettable to witness Nathalie Tocci, Special Adviser to EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, conducting an interview with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard affiliated Tasnim news agency, in which she effectively propagates and justifies the positions of the Iranian regime. London, MEFD – On Wednesday 1 November, Middle East Forum for Development (MEFD) held an event in the House of Commons regarding the human rights situation in Iran.

The event was chaired and hosted by Mr Jim Shannon, Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) Member of Parliament, and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Religion or Belief. (more…)
