London, MEFD – Middle East Forum for Development has organised a panel event titled ‘The persecution of religious and ethnic minorities in Iran’, which will be held on Monday 27th February, 5:30 pm, in the House of Commons. The event is co-sponsored by the All-Party Parliamentary Human Rights Group (PHRG) and the All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Religion or Belief and will be chaired by Dr Matthew Offord MP. img-20161217-wa0029London, MEFD – Thousands of people gathered in Marble Arch, London, then marched to Downing Street, in an event organised by the Syria Solidarity Campaign which was also attended by a delegation of Middle East Forum for Development (MEFD).

The campaign had urged people to join their protest against large-scale bombardments targeting civilians in Aleppo by the Assad regime and its allies.

atena-daemiLondon, MEFD – According to Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), 29-year-old Iranian civil rights activist Atena Daemi was violently arrested on the morning of 26 November at her father’s residence by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and subjected to threats. Ms Daemi was subsequently transferred by the IRGC to Evin prison in order to serve a 7 year prison sentence. (more…)

London, Middle East Monitor – A major international human rights organisation has accused Iran today of “boasting of mass killing” after the Iranian regime repeatedly broadcast the mass execution of 25 Sunni Kurdish-Iranian men that occurred last August.

Amnesty International said that the Iranian authorities were “broadcasting injustice” after they put the Kurdish men to death, and forced them to participate in “confession” videos that Amnesty says was designed to “dehumanise” the men. (more…)

mohammad-ali-taheriLondon, MEFD – Middle East Forum for Development is extremely concerned about the fate and whereabouts of Iranian spiritual teacher Mohammad Ali Taheri, who has been held incommunicado since 16 October. Since May 2011, Taheri has been held in solitary confinement in the notorious Evin prison in Iran after he was sentenced by the authorities to five years imprisonment on trumped up charges of “insulting Islamic sanctities”. ali_matroudiLondon, MEFD – Middle East Forum for Development condemns the imprisonment of Ali Matroudi, a poet and writer from Ahwaz, the capital city of Iran’s Khuzestan Province. On 18th May, Matroudi was sentenced by the Iranian authorities to serve a one-year prison sentence in Shiban prison on charges of “acting against national security and propaganda against the establishment”.
